Photo of The Year

After the surprise and excitement of the Regional Press Awards last month I'm so pleased to announce that I won another award last night! I attended the Midlands Media Awards 2014 at Villa Park in Birmingham and had a great time, after being shortlisted in all 3 photography categories - News, Sport and News Photo of The Year. I was fortunate enough to win the news photo competition for my image from the policeman's funeral. (See the picture here.) Once again it's hard to know what to say, other than I am so chuffed! What made it even sweeter last night was that I attended the awards with my mate and colleague Mikey Sewell who also won the Sports Photography category so huge congrats to him. It may sound a little soppy but I do want to say that not only is he a friend, he's also been a bit of an inspiration because he's a flipping good snapper, has taught me a lot and also encouraged me to enter all of the awards. He also sent me a text on the day I took the funeral picture, predicting that it would win this award! Well he was right, and we celebrated, as you can see!

Once again I've had lots of lovely messages, tweets and texts from various people so thank you very much.

I could get used to these award things!
Cheers, Will
